Introduction

Hawkwell is a village and civil parish in the district of Rochford, Essex.

Hawkwell is mentioned in the Domesday Book, but not as Hawkwell, it is Hacuuella or Hechuuella.

The parish includes the village itself and the much larger suburban developments in the East (running into Rochford), and the West (running into Hockley).

The 2001 census gave the population for the parish as 11,231.

Hawkwell Parish Plan Group is a non-political voluntary group which was formed following two meetings of residents - in the Hawkwell Village Hall on 17th September 2009 and in Hawkwell Baptist Church Hall on 15th December 2009 – chaired by Councillor Myra Weir (Hawkwell Parish Council).

Those residents expressing an interest in forming the Steering Committee were invited to a meeting in the Freight House Rochford, chaired by Cllr Myra Weir on 22nd February 2010 and the committee for the Hawkwell Parish Plan Group was formed, Chairman is Mr Edward Short (resident).

Following guidance from the documentation of the Rural Community Council of Essex (RCCE), a plan of action was formulated and funding was sought. The first ‘pump-priming’ donation came from Hawkwell Parish Council and this resulted in a bank account being set up with an initial balance of £500.00 – allowing the Hawkwell Parish Plan project to begin.

The aim of the project is to create a questionnaire for all Hawkwell residents to complete and subsequently to generate an Action Plan of recommendations – determined by the residents – to submit to Local Authorities (Hawkwell Parish Council and Rochford District Council).
